It ensures conceptual clarity, updated knowledge, and the ability to solve objective-type questions efficiently.
Overview of exam
1. Stage I: Preliminary Examination (Qualifying)
The RPSC RAS Prelims serves exclusively as a screening filter; its score is not evaluated for the final rank list.
- Exam Type: Objective with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Paper Count: 1 single paper.
- Core Subject: General Knowledge & General Science.
- Question Volume: 150 questions.
- Maximum Marks: 200 marks.
- Time Duration: 3 hours.
- Negative Marking: Penalty of \(1/3\)rd mark for every incorrect answer.
- Mandatory 5th Option Rule: A fifth circle is provided on the OMR sheet. If you do not know the answer, you must bubble the 5th option. Leaving a question completely blank triggers a \(1/3\)rd mark deduction penalty. Failing to fill any option in more than 10% of total questions leads to disqualification.
2. Stage II: Main Examination (Merit-Based)
Candidates clearance threshold is roughly 15 times the total declared vacancy pool to qualify for Mains. RAS Mains is entirely descriptive and analytical.
- Exam Type: Descriptive / Written Test.
- Paper Count: 4 compulsory papers.
- Total Marks: 800 marks (200 marks per paper).
- Time Duration: 3 hours allotted for each paper.
| Paper | Subject / Focus | Total Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I | General Studies I (History, Economics, Sociology, Management, Accounting & Auditing) | 200 Marks | 3 Hours |
| Paper II | General Studies II (Administrative Ethics, General Science & Technology, Earth Science/Geography) | 200 Marks | 3 Hours |
| Paper III | General Studies III (Polity, World Politics, Public Administration, Sports & Yoga, Behavior, Law) | 200 Marks | 3 Hours |
| Paper IV | General Hindi and General English (Grammar, Comprehension, Writing, and Essays) | 200 Marks | 3 Hours |
- Note on revisions: The latest RPSC blueprint has removed standard 2-mark brief questions, structuring the question formats tightly around 5-mark and 10-mark descriptive answers.
3. Stage III: Personality Test (Interview)
- Maximum Marks: 100 marks.
- Assessment Framework: Focuses on character evaluation, leadership abilities, physical traits, knowledge of Rajasthan’s local culture, and overall suitability for public administrative roles.
